I am very pleased to announce that a delicious line of loose-leaf teas and tea accessories are on order. Some of the tantalizing flavors that Ascent Bodywork will be offering include Citron Green, Lavender, and my favorite, Strawberry Black. Too hot for a cup of tea? Take it from me. There is nothing as wonderful as a cup of Iced Strawberry Black tea! Beautiful tea pots and tea cups will be available, as well as funky tea infusers and books about tea.

Online Calendar Temporarily Disabled

Due to technical difficulties, the Ascent Bodywork one calendar has been temporarily disabled. Please feel free to call me for availability at 828-406-6902. I hope to have the issue resolved by the end of June.

Top 5 Ways to Maximize Your Massage

5. Give yourself plenty of time. Too often in this day and age, we rush from one appointment to the next in a virtual tornado of business. Give yourself a little extra time for your massage, if you are able. Take a few minutes after the session to lie still and soak in the wonderful post-massage feelings. Don’t worry; extra time has been scheduled for you at Ascent Bodywork, just for that purpose.

4. Avoid a large meal right before your massage appointment. Eating a large meal just before your session can make some massage techniques uncomfortable. Plus, your body will be busy with the work of digesting, instead of focused on the bliss of a relaxing massage.

3. Talk to me about discomfort of any kind. Too often, massage clients suffer through discomfort during their session. The time that you set aside for massage at Ascent Bodywork is all about you. The pressure of the massage strokes, the music playing, and the temperature of the table can all be adjusted to make your session just the way you like it. It is my pleasure to make it so!

2. Breathe. All of the tissues in our body depend on the oxygen that we breathe. Sometimes on the massage table, you might get the urge to take a big, deep breath, or to sigh or yawn. No reason to be shy about that. I may even encourage you to breathe during your session, so sigh and yawn away!

1. Relax. I have found that it is best to play the part of a well-cooked spaghetti noodle when I am receiving massage. There is no need to assist the massage therapist in lifting your arm, leg, or head. If the therapist does need your assistance in moving you, they will ask.

I look forward to seeing all of you this summer at Ascent Bodywork! Call today for an appointment 828-406-6902!

I am happy to announce Ascent Bodyworks'  Refer-Your-Friends program.

15th-Mar-2008 12:05 pm - The Big Announcement!
As many of you know, Ascent Bodywork as been a part-time endeavor for me until now. Recently I had to make the choice between remaining at my day-job of 8 years and abandoning my massage therapy career, or leaving my day job to pursue Ascent Bodywork's success full-time. While I will miss my coworkers and the security at my day-job, It was not  a difficult decision. I am passionate about massage therapy and feel that it is what I was born to do!

As of April 4, 2008, I will be available at my new massage studio on King Street at the following times:

Mondays 11am-3:30pm
Tuesdays 11am-5pm
Wednesdays - Fridays 11am-6pm
Weekend, morning, and evening hours are also available by appointment.
During my regular business hours, if I am not with a client, my door will be open for walk-in seated massage.

These hours may well change as I get a feel for what works best for you, my clients. When changes occur, I will post them here.

I am still offering seated massage at Bare Essentials Natural Market on Mondays from 4-6pm, and through the end of April, all proceeds from that will go to help the Grandfather Mountain Highlanders Pipe Band travel to Canada for the North American Pipe Band Championships. I will also be happy to take donations for the GMH pipe band at any time. These guys and gals are working so hard to get ready for this competition - I know first-hand as my husband is a piper in the band!

I am so excited and blessed to be able to pursue this dream of mine much earlier than I anticipated. Here's to unexpected change, and a year of peaceful relaxation at Ascent Bodywork!

Welcome to 2008!

I hope that everyone's Holiday Season was filled with joy! Now as we continue into winter, it is the perfect time to warm up with a massage from Ascent Bodywork. My table is heated and made up with soft cotton sheets and a warm blanket just for you! Massage increases circulation and helps to balance hormones to lift your mood and relieve stress. It can even help increase your metabolism! Call today for an appointment: 828-406-6902.

There are lots of things going on at Ascent Bodywork these days!

I am still available for seated massage on Mondays at Bare Essentials Natural Market from 4-6pm.  Also, Wednesday, January 16th is Wild Wednesday at Bare Essentials! I will be there offering seated massage from 3-6pm.

February is also shaping up to be a busy month. Ascent Bodywork will be closed from February 14-17, 2008 as I have been asked to provide seated massage at a convention in Atlanta. I will also be attending a Thai Massage Certification Course from February 18-22, 2008.

Don't forget that Valentine's Day is coming up! What better gift than a massage for your Valentine?  Come see me at Bare Essentials 1/16, and take $15.00 off Gift Certificates for sessions one hour or longer in length if you purchase them that night.
My massage gift certificates are so nice in their gift envelopes that they stand very well on their own. However, for those who want more "flare" in their Holiday gift-giving, here are some ideas:

*Bare Essentials has all kinds of wonderful body lotions, soaps, massage oils, and bath accessories. Put some of these together in a gift basket, add a massage gift certificate and you've got the perfect pampering present.

*Is the gift certificate for a coffee or tea lover? Use the above idea, but fill your basket with the wonderful organic coffees and teas at Bare Essentials. This works well with chocolate too. Mmmm.... Chocolate.

*Tuck a gift certificate into an over-sized Holiday card.

*Put a gift certificate into a big box and wrap it up with festive paper and ribbons. Weight the box with something heavy. They'll never guess what it is!

*Tuck a gift certificate into the branches of your Christmas tree.

*Breakfast in bed! Lay the gift certificate on the tray next to their plate. Just don't spill coffee on it. :)

*Leave a gift certificate in their stocking.
22nd-Nov-2007 03:59 pm - Holiday Newsletter

Dear Friends,

I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all of you for your patronage, help, and friendship as I have started my massage therapy practice. You have made this a wonderful journey! Thank you!

I also want to wish everyone a Happy Holidays. This is a joyous Season filled with jolly festivities and lots of commitments. With all of this plus Holiday shopping, it can get pretty hectic. Massage therapy gift certificates are an easy way to check some of those gifts off of your shopping list quickly.

Massage is the perfect gift to share with the special folks on your gift-giving lists this year. It reduces stress, is calorie-free, and healthy in so many ways! Gift Certificates for 30-minute or longer massages are available, printed in full-color and ready to give in pretty gift envelopes. Stocking-stuffer gift cards for 5, 10, or 15-minute seated massage sessions are also available. These gift cards can also be used for $5, $10, or $15 off of any massage. To purchase one, just drop in to see me at Bare Essentials Natural Market any Monday from 4-6pm, or call me at 828-773-7395 to arrange a meeting. Check out http://ascentbodywork.livejournal.com/ to read about creative ways to present gift certificates to your loved ones.

With all of the busyness this time of year, don’t forget to take some quiet time for you! You’ll be amazed at how taking some time out will help your energy level and Holiday spirit. Book a massage at my office and receive 30 extra minutes added onto the session for free. This offer expires on December 31, 2007, so be sure to call soon 828-773-7395! I’ve already scheduled my massage session this month, how about you? My office is located on Bamboo Road in Boone with hours by appointment only.

For those of you who prefer a shorter time-out from the Holiday hullabaloo, seated massage is a great option. Seated massage usually lasts 10-15 minutes. Come relax and enjoy a mini-massage at Bare Essentials Natural Market each Monday from 4-6pm. I’d love to see you there! Bare Essentials is located on Boone Heights Drive near the Wellness Center.

May the blessings of this Divine Season fill your hearts with peace and joy!
